SCREENVISION PRESENTS BALLET SHOES STARRING HARRY POTTER’S EMMA WATSON
New York, NY – (Aug. 20, 2008)
U.S. Premiere is Screenvision’s Latest Alternative Programming Feature
Screenvision has partnered with KOCH Vision to present the national premiere of the heartwarming family drama Ballet Shoes. The film, based on the classic novel by Noel Streatfeild, stars Harry Potter’s Emma Watson and tells the story of three orphans, raised as sisters, who embark on an exhilarating journey to follow their dreams.
Screenvision’s alternative programming division will exhibit the feature-length drama with select theatre partners for limited engagements across the country beginning August 26th. Ballet Shoes will be distributed to each cinema using Screenvision’s network of hi-definition digital technology.
A must-see hit in the UK, the Ballet Shoes cast also includes Dame Eileen Atkins (Cold Mountain, Cold Comfort Farm), Richard Griffiths (Harry Potter, The History Boys), Emilia Fox (The Pianist, Cashback), Harriet Walter (Atonement, Babel) and Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Sense and Sensibility).
“Screenvision’s 7,000 digital screen network allows us to offer content partners a low-cost, high-quality distribution platform that can match the right content with the right markets,” said Darryl Schaffer, executive vice president, exhibitor relations for Screenvision. “Ballet Shoes is the type of family drama we feel could have widespread appeal and we look forward to working with our partners to distribute this inspiring story nationwide.”
“We’re thrilled to work with Screenvision,” said Michael Rosenberg, President, KOCH Vision. “Their ability to provide a nationwide platform for audiences to enjoy Ballet Shoes on the big screen has played a key role in creating awareness for this property prior to its release on DVD.”
Continuously in print since first being published in 1936, Streatfeild’s novel – subtitled “A Story of Three Children on the Stage” – has delighted generations of young girls with its message that dreams really do come true. Directed by Sandra Goldbacher (Me Without You, The Governess), the Ballet Shoes feature-length adaptation was produced by Granada for the BBC. North American Home Entertainment rights for the property were acquired by KOCH Vision from Granada International earlier this year.
Screenvision’s alternative programming division was launched in 2007 to enable exhibitors to attract additional audiences during off-peak movie timeframes. Screenvision’s presentation of the documentary film UltraMarathon Man: 50 Marathons • 50 States • 50 Days this summer, the La Scala opera series and its partnership with the New York Mets for “Mets at the Movies” are examples of previous successes.
