SCREENVISION AND WAGGINGTAIL ENTERTAINMENT PARTNER TO BRING NEW YORK CITY COMEDY TO THEATRES NATIONWIDE WITH STAND-UP 360
New York City, NY – (March 17, 2009)
A Series of Seven Original Feature Presentations to Appear in Theatres Beginning May 2009
Screenvision has partnered with waggingtail entertainment (Bryan Bantry in association with Eric Hanson and Michael S. Rosenberg) to present STAND-UP 360 in theatres nationwide beginning in May 2009. STAND-UP 360 will be delivering a series of feature-length, stand-up comedy films, which offer seven distinct feature presentations with comedian Caroline Rhea as the lead host of the recorded-live films, to Screenvision’s Programming Network division.
Screenvision’s Programming Network will make the comedy series available through its exhibitor partners across the country with coverage in all of the top 10 DMAs.
STAND-UP 360 presents top names from headliners to break-out stars capturing the unmistakable energy of a live New York comedy show in an unparalleled experience. Serving up a new style of entertainment at the movies, Screenvision offers major bang for the buck; it would take months of repeated visits to a variety of comedy venues to experience the caliber and range of talent assembled by STAND-UP 360 for each part of this series.
“Screenvision is committed to using its digital network to deliver quality entertainment to movie theatres nationwide. From documentaries, to concerts, to live sports and now stand-up comedy, we are creating a full spectrum of alternatives to complement the biggest draw of all, the feature-length movie,” said Darryl Schaffer, Executive Vice President, Exhibitor Relations for Screenvision. “STAND-UP 360 will bring top-draw comedy stars to theatre audiences on a national level and we look forward to working with waggingtail and our exhibitor partners to promote it.”
The Screenvision Programming Network was launched in 2007 to enable exhibitors to attract additional audiences during off-peak movie timeframes. Screenvision’s presentation of the La Scala opera series, UltraMarathon Man: 50 Marathons • 50 States • 50 Days, Ballet Shoes, its partnership with the New York Mets for Mets at the Movies, the Phillies’ World Series film with Major League Baseball, the Boston Celtics championship season documentary, Return to the Rafters, MSNBC’s coverage of President Obama’s Inauguration, and most recently Stevie Wonder’s “Live at Last” concert are examples of previous successes.
“New York comedy clubs are to stand-up comedy what Broadway is to theater – the place to see the absolute best performers,” says producer Bryan Bantry, waggingtail entertainment. “Now, we can deliver the experience of a New York club closer to home, at a great price. Seeing live comedy is about who’s at the mic and the energy of the crowd. Showcasing our comedy series in theatres generates the same dynamic and exciting experience of a live show. With the state of the economy and discouraging headlines all around us — we need a laugh, now more than ever. STAND-UP 360 is designed to be fun, inexpensive and unmatched in terms of its entertainment value.”
Hosted by Caroline Rhea, STAND-UP 360 series will debut four original films with two special features, STAND-UP 360: Muy Caliente and STAND-UP 360: Inside Out. Muy Caliente will be devoted to Hispanic comics such as Angelo Lozada, Cristela Alonzo, Sara Contreras and hosted by rising star Erik Rivera. Inside Out will headline popular LGBT comics and friends including Judy Gold, Jackie Hoffman, Frank DeCaro and Jaffe Cohen. Filled with laughs and never-before-seen footage, each series delivers thought-provoking performances.
